How Does Carbon Steel Gate Valves Work?

Carbon steel gate valve is a kind of gate valve system, but the material is different from others. The material is carbon steel. The opening and closing parts are gates. The movement direction of the gates is perpendicular to the fluid direction. It can only be fully opened and fully closed and it can't be regulated and throttled. The gate has two sealing surfaces. The two sealing surfaces of the most commonly used carbon steel gate valves form a wedge, and the wedge angle varies with the valve parameters. The gate of the wedge gate valve can be made into a whole, called a rigid gate. The gate of the wedge gate valve can also be made into a gate that can produce slight deformation to improve its processability and make up for the deviation of the sealing surface angle during processing. This kind of gate is called an elastic gate. Carbon steel gate valve body adopts precision casting, and the precise geometric dimensions make the inside of the valve body be able to ensure the tightness of the valve without any finishing.

 

 

Working Principle

When the carbon steel gate valve is closed, the sealing surface can be sealed only by the medium pressure, that is, the sealing surface of the gate is pressed against the valve seat on the other side by the medium pressure to ensure the sealing of the sealing surface, which is also called self sealing. Most gate valves are forcedly sealed, that is, when the valve is closed, the gate is forced to be pressed against the valve seat by external force to ensure the tightness of the sealing surface. The gate of the gate valve moves linearly with the valve stem, which is called a lift lever gate valve. Usually, there is a trapezoidal thread on the lifting rod, and the rotary motion is changed to linear motion through the nut on the top of the valve and the guide groove on the valve body, that is, the operating torque is changed to the operating thrust.

 

When the valve is opened, when the lift height of the gate is equal to 1.1 times the valve diameter, the fluid channel is completely unobstructed, but this position cannot be monitored during operation. In actual condition, the apex of the valve stem is used as a mark, and the position where the valve cannot be opened is used as its fully open position. In order to consider the lock-up phenomenon caused by temperature changes, it is usually opened to the top position, and then back to 1 / 2-1 circle, which is considered to be the fully open position of the valve. Therefore, the fully open position of the valve is determined by the position of the gate.

 

 

Structural Classification

As a kind of gate valve, carbon steel gate valve can be divided into wedge gate valve and parallel gate valve according to the sealing surface configuration. Wedge gate valve can be divided into single gate, double gate and elastic gate. Parallel gate valve can be divided into single gate and double gate. According to the thread position of the valve stem, it can be divided into two types, including bright stem gate valve and dark stem gate valve.
