What Are the Best Ways to Install Instrument Piping?

What Are the Best Ways to Install Instrument Piping?

How should the instrument pipeline be installed? What do we need to pay attention to? And is the valve in the pipeline important? In this passage, we will briefly introduce about these.

1. Requirements for Materials

The main materials such as profile steel, pipes, valves, fittings, and welding rods shall comply with the relevant provisions of the current national or industry standards. The materials, specifications and models of pipes, valves, fittings and section steels shall meet the design requirements, and shall be accompanied by a material certificate or a substitute. It should be with regular appearance, no rust spots, no scars, no heavy skin and no cracks.

2.Main Installation Equipment

1) Bracket Safety Equipment

It includes grinding wheel saw, bench drill, electric welder and impact drill.

2) Piping Tools

This mainly includes manual pipe bender, hydraulic pipe bender, pipe threader, DC welding machine, gas welding tool, hand saw and live hand.

3) Pressure Test Equipment

It is composed of pressure test pumps, pressure gauges and moving hands.

3.Conditions for Installation

1) The elevation and strike position of the pipeline installation have been determined.

2) The source components and the on-site instruments should have been installed in place.

3) The pipe bracket should have been installed and fixed, the primer and topcoat should have been painted according to the regulations and dried.

4) The inside of the pipe should be cleaned. The outer surface of the carbon steel pipe should be derusted and brushed.

5) Pipes, fittings, and valves are checked according to the design drawings, and the valves have passed the pressure test.

4. Pipeline Installation

1) General Requirements

The measuring pipe cannot be cut by electricity or gas welding. The welder must hold a valid welder qualification certificate. Before welding the heat-resistant alloy steel pipe, the welding process must be qualified before installation.

The installation location of the measuring pipeline should be reasonably arranged according to the site conditions. The piping should be neat, beautiful, and firmly fixed, with as few bends and intersections as possible.

When measuring pipes are connected to high-temperature equipment or pipes, thermal expansion compensation measures shall be taken. The distance between the measuring pipe and the surface of the equipment must not be less than 50mm. The distance between the measuring pipe for measuring oils and the hot surface shall not be less than 150mm. If the pipeline needs to be insulated, the distance should be appropriately increased.

When measuring pipes by electric welding, the instruments and equipment must be separated from the pipes before welding to prevent the welding current from damaging the meters.

2) Pressure Test of Pipeline

The installed instrument pipelines shall be inspected before the test, and there shall be no leakage, blockage or misconnection. It should be disconnected from the instrument.

The pressure test of the instrument pipeline shall use liquid as the test medium. When the design pressure of the instrument pipeline is less than or equal to 0.6 MPa, gas can be used as the test medium.

The hydraulic test pressure should be 1.5 times the design pressure. When the test pressure is reached, the pressure should be stabilized for 10 minutes, and then the test pressure should be reduced to the design pressure, and the pressure should be stabilized for 10 minutes. If the pressure is not reduced and no leakage, it is qualified.

When the vacuum or leak test is required by the process system, the instrumentation and piping system shall be tested together with the process system.

The hydraulic test medium shall use clean water. When testing austenitic stainless-steel pipes, the chloride ion content in the water shall not exceed 25mg / L. Drain the liquid after the test. When testing at an ambient temperature below 5 ° C, antifreeze measures should be taken.

The air pressure test medium should use air or nitrogen.

Hopefully, this passage can help you learn more about instrument piping and the valves in it.
