Why Use Copper as Raw Material of Brass Fitting?

Why Use Copper as Raw Material of Brass Fitting?

Why use copper as raw material of brass fitting? In addition to the well-known advantages of "wear resistance" and "corrosion resistance", copper is also a huge sustainable resource wealth provided by nature. Unlike other natural resources, copper can be recycled 100%. The sustainable development of copper's value ability extends the life cycle of products, saves the earth's natural resources and improves the utilization of natural resources.

Brass is also a soft, ductile, excellent thermally and electrically conductive metal. It can be processed into cold and hot pressure well, can be made into long and thin copper wire, and can be pressed into thin and transparent copper foil, casting various shapes of brass crafts full of artistic imagination.

Brass has strong wear resistance, and is often used to manufacture valves, water pipes, connecting pipes for internal and external air conditioners and radiators. The brass generally used for plumbing system components meets industry standards, and each brass raw material has its own "birth certificate". In order to avoid the disadvantages of fragility and fragility, and increase the high temperature resistance, it is necessary to select a zinc-copper alloy with high strength and good ductility, and complete a hot press molding for the product under pressure ranging from 200 to 800 tons. In order to avoid the dezincification corrosion caused by the poor erosion resistance of the alloy, the brass used in new energy and domestic hot and cold water systems is anti-dezincification copper DR to ensure the safety of domestic water.

The Process of brass manufacturing

Common brass is copper-zinc alloy. To make brass, the materials to be prepared include zinc ore (not zinc metal element), charcoal (used to reduce zinc ore), and copper.

First, mix the crushed zinc ore and charcoal with copper blocks in a certain proportion and heat them to combine zinc and copper, then heat to melt the alloy, and then pour the molten liquid into the casting mold to obtain the desired brass products. The reason why zinc and copper are not directly miscible is because the specific melting point of copper is 1083°C, and the boiling point of zinc is 906°C, which means that copper has not yet melted, and zinc has boiled into a gas, which is naturally not miscible. Due to the different zinc content in brass, the mechanical properties are also different. Ordinary brass is very widely used, such as water tank belt, water supply and drainage pipe, medal, bellows, serpentine pipe, condenser pipe, bullet shell and various complex shapes of punching products, small hardware, etc. With the increase of zinc content from H63 to H59, they can withstand hot processing well, and are mostly used in various parts of machinery and electrical appliances, stamping parts and musical instruments.

In addition to ordinary brass, a certain amount of other elements can be added to it to obtain special brass. In order to improve the corrosion resistance, strength, hardness and machinability of brass, small amounts of tin, aluminum, manganese, iron, silicon, nickel, lead and other elements are added to the copper-zinc alloy to form ternary, quaternary, The five-element alloy is complex brass, also known as special brass. The structure of complex brass can be calculated based on the "zinc equivalent coefficient" of elements added to brass.
