Why Should We Use Brass Fittings in The Water Supply System?

Green building refers to a high-quality building which saves resources, protects the environment, reduces pollution, provides people with healthy, applicable and efficient use space and maximizes the harmonious coexistence of human and nature during the whole life cycle of the building. The green buildings have become the trend and standard of global architectural design. Many countries have issued relevant standards to vigorously promote green building construction. At present, brass fittings and stainless steel fittings are used in most of the potable water pipes in many developed countries.

According to the statistics of the International Copper Association, in developed countries and regions, brass water supply and heating system has accounted for a large proportion, accounting for 81% in the United States, 95% in the United Kingdom and 70% in Hong Kong. In China's airports, hospitals and other large public buildings with strict water quality requirements, metal pipelines also account for a very high proportion.

Why Use Brass Fittings

The use of brass pipe fittings and stainless steel pipe fittings can protect water quality and ensure human health. Brass is the first choice for making drinking water pipes in the world. Firstly, brass has bacteriostatic function and can inhibit Legionella, tuberculosis and Escherichia coli with high pathogenicity. Secondly, brass is widely used in other components of water supply systems, such as taps, which are used in almost all mid-to-high brand tap spools worldwide. Stainless steel is a recognized health material which can be implanted into human body. In the immersion water test, all its indexes meet the requirements of relevant national drinking water standards. In addition, the inner wall of stainless steel pipeline is smooth, and it will not accumulate scale and be not easily polluted by bacteria during long-term use. Therefore, secondary pollution of water is prevented and water quality is guaranteed.

Metal pipelines have good corrosion and high temperature resistance, no harmful substances will be precipitated, and at the same time, the service life of pipelines is extended to the greatest extent while protecting water quality. High strength and high pressure resistance are another advantage of metal pipes. Brass pipes are 3-4 times stronger than PP-R pipes and stainless steel pipes are 8-10 times stronger than PP-R pipes. They can withstand high-speed water flow impact of 30 meters per second, which significantly reduces water leakage rate and makes piping connection more secure.

Smooth inner walls of metal pipes with very low water resistance reduce resistance to water flow, which not only optimizes the daily water use experience, but also reduces transportation costs. In terms of environmental protection, old metal pipes can be reused without any waste to pollute the environment, while PP-R pipes will eventually produce white waste (hard to decompose polymer waste) to pollute the environment. The use of metal pipes is a beneficial and far-reaching wise decision.

With the improvement of national development level and people's living standard, people pay more and more attention to the health of water quality. Traditional plastic fittings are gradually replaced by brass fittings and stainless steel fittings to ensure the health of people's drinking water.
