Since the invention of the water meter in 1825, the development of water meters has a history of nearly two hundred years. During the period, the structure of the water meter has changed a lot. The principle and basic structure of these water meters are still used by manufacturers in various countries, but the continuous improvement in design, technology and so on has greatly improved the performance and reliability of water meters, which has also reduced the costs.

The History of Water Meter in China

The production and use of water meter in China started late. As we know, the first water plant was set up in 1879 by Li Hongzhang. In 1883, British colonialists established a second water plant in Shanghai. Coming to the 1930s, the then Guanghua Machinery Factory in shanghai began to produce water meters by using some parts were imported from abroad. For a long time, water meters from Britain, France, Japan, and Germany have always occupied the market of water meter in our country. Due to the different standards and structures, there were great difficulties in the repair of these water meters.

After the liberation in 1949, with the development of the industry of water supply, the production of water meter in China also developed accordingly.

Since 1955, companies in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Nanjing, Wuhan, Guangzhou and other cities have started to produce the water meters. In the late 1950s, Guanghua factory began to produce the water meters which had all-metal structures. In 1958, Guanghua factory transferred the production of water meter to Ningbo factory. In the early 1960s, under the attention of the government, the state built two factories which produced the water meters in China. At that time, the total production every year of two companies in China was less than 50,000 water meters.

In 1965, the government commissioned the Science Research Institute and factories of water meter in Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou to design the new type of water meters called vane-wheel water meter, which has unified structure of water meter and has changed the low quality of water meters in China.

In 1973, the national industry of water meter highlighted the water meters designed by the factories in Shanghai and Ningbo as the development direction of water meters in China at that time. At this point, the unified structure of water meters from civilian use to industrial use came into existence.

In the early 1980s, the industry of water meter carried on the design of a new type of water meters, which greatly promoted the development of water meters in China. What is more, in the 1990s, China's economy continued to develop at a high speed, and the industry of water meter also developed rapidly. At the same time, intelligent water meters and other products in the system of water meter began to rise.

At last, in modern times, the water meters are commonly used in all fields, and we can take a purchase of water meter according to the purpose of using it.
