Leaking Pipe or Water Appliance Behind a Water Meter

A private pipe, such as a pipe embedded in the wall or buried underground, which is installed behind the water meter, may be leaking. Even if the water is not used, the phenomenon of leakage still occurs, which brings about continuous rotation of the water meter. In general, even if there are many types of water appliances, leaks can be found and repaired in time, except for leaks in the water tank of the toilet.

As a consequence, when a water appliance leaks water, damaged parts need to be replaced. If the underground water supply pipe is leaking, first, the residents need to determine where the leak is, and then turn off the main gate of the water source, waiting for professional maintenance personnel to repair it.

Air in Water Pipes

Long pipes behind water meters that are not used for a long time will give rise to store air. When the water pressure is high, the air will be compressed, and conversely, when the water pressure is low, the air will be released again, which forms the water in the water pipe. Therefore, the water meter will turn up on its own, causing the number on the water meter to increase, and alternatively， the number on the water meter will decrease.

In order to solve the problem of water meter rotation caused by the air in the pipe, the air in the pipe must be eliminated. First, residents are advised to close the valve at the front of the meter, and then open all faucets behind the meter to drain the remaining water in the pipe. Then, the front valve is opened to let the water out for 1-2 minutes so that the air in the tube is enable to be removed. In addition, it is also a good choice to install a check valve in front of the water meter to prevent water from flowing backwards.

Improper Installation

The water meter is so close to the main pipe whose pressure fluctuation of the water directly affects the water that causes the water meter to rotate.

In terms of solving the unreasonable installation design, the residents need to respond to the water company in time and cooperate with the water company professionals to solve it.

Improper Use of Secondary Water Supply Facilities

The area of the water meter rotation caused by improper use of the secondary water supply facilities becomes larger, and equally, the rotation frequency is higher, so the amount of water generated is also larger.

When encountering large-area and multi-family idling situations, be sure to check whether there are secondary water supply facilities in the community with sharp fluctuations in water pressure. If there is a secondary water supply facility, first, disconnect the secondary water supply equipment, especially the water inlet valve of the reservoir, and then observe the changes in the water pressure of the pipe network and the idling situation. If the water pressure is stable and the idling stops, the property management should check each item against the plot of the residential area and then correct it. If the water meter continues to idle after the secondary water supply facility being disconnected, it is necessary to deflate the hydrant in the community until the accumulated gas is eliminated and the idling stops.

When the water meter turns without using water, the residents should check in time to avoid water waste and pay the water fee in vain.
